Exactly What It Does, and What It Does Not.

The specification in plain words, including the bits that will decide whether this is the right present.

It Plays Video, With Sound

MP4, MPG, MPEG, AVI and VOB files, up to 800MB each, through a built-in speaker you can mute with one button. Most frames at this size are stills only, and stills are the part nobody watches twice. The clips are what get replayed and passed around the table.

Loading It Is Drag and Drop

USB-C into a Windows machine or a Mac and it mounts as a drive. JPG photographs into the PIC folder, video into VIDEO, eject, done. Push the plug in firmly — half-seated, it charges but does not appear as a drive, which is the one thing people get stuck on.

Orientation Is Fixed When You Order

Landscape plays 16:9 files and portrait plays 9:16, chosen at purchase and not changeable afterwards. Square 1:1 files will not play on either. Check which way round your pictures are before you choose, and crop the odd ones on your computer — it is five minutes now against a disappointment later.

Mains Powered, With a Couple of Hours Off the Cable

It runs indefinitely plugged in, which is how it will mostly live. The internal battery gives roughly two to three hours of playback on a full charge, so it can be carried through to another room or handed round without trailing a cable behind it.

The real reason

Nobody Rewatches a Photograph. They Rewatch a Clip.

A still picture gets a moment. You look, you smile, you move on. But a five-second video of someone pulling a face, or a voice saying something in a particular way, gets played again immediately — and then shown to whoever walks into the room.

That is the whole reason this has a speaker in it. The sound is not a bonus feature; it is the part people cry at.

Fits your actual day

Nothing at Their End. Not Even a Computer.

Plenty of people this suits do not own a laptop, and would not be interested in setting one up if they did. That is fine, because none of the work happens at their end.

You load it. They switch it on. There is no pairing, no signing in, no cable to find again later. If the person you are buying for has ever described a device as 'too complicated', this is the one that gets around that entirely.

Out of the box

Twenty Minutes at Your Kitchen Table.

Plug it into your laptop with the cable in the box and it shows up as a drive. Drop your JPG photographs into the PIC folder and your video files into the VIDEO folder. Eject it, switch it on, check it plays.

Two rules make it painless. Photographs need to be JPG, so export from an iPhone rather than copying HEIC files straight across. And everything must match the orientation you ordered — landscape files for a landscape frame, portrait for portrait.

A gift that means it

For the People Who Are Hard to Buy For.

The ones who have everything, want nothing, and say every year not to bother. The eightieth birthday, the fortieth anniversary, the parent moving into somewhere smaller, the friend who has just lost someone.

You cannot buy any of them an object they need. What you can do is spend an evening going back through fifteen years of photographs and hand them the result on a screen that plays it. That is a different sort of present entirely.
