A Gift You Fill Yourself

Small, Simple, and Full of Them.

Four things that decide whether a present like this gets watched more than once.

Video Is the Part That Gets Rewatched

Nobody looks at the same still photograph twice in one sitting. A six-second clip of someone laughing gets played four times in a row. The frame has a speaker built in, so the clips arrive with their sound — which is usually where the actual memory lives.

Two Buttons Is the Entire Interface

On and off. Mute. That is all there is, and it is deliberate — a present that has to be explained tends to get put back in its box. Switch it on and it starts playing whatever is on it, every time, without anybody being shown how.

You Load It From a Computer You Already Own

Connect the USB-C cable to a Windows machine or a Mac and the frame appears as a drive. Copy photographs into the PIC folder, video into the VIDEO folder, unplug. There is nothing to install and nothing to register — it behaves like a memory stick, because that is essentially what it is.

Choose the Way Round Before You Order

Landscape plays 16:9, portrait plays 9:16, and the orientation is fixed when you buy. Square 1:1 images are not supported. We put that here rather than hiding it in the small print, because five minutes of checking your photos now saves an unhappy afternoon later.

The real reason

A Card Gets Read Once. This Gets Played.

You already know what happens to a card. It is opened, it is read, it stands on a shelf for a fortnight and then it goes in a drawer with the others. The nice ones survive slightly longer than the funny ones. That is the whole lifespan.

A Frapture is the opposite kind of present, because the gift is not the object — it is what you put on it. Forty photographs they have never seen. The clip where somebody is laughing too hard to finish the sentence. It plays, with sound, and it plays again.

Fits your actual day

You Do the Work. They Just Switch It On.

All the effort sits at your end, which is exactly where it should be. You choose the photographs, you copy them across at your kitchen table, and you close the box.

At their end there is nothing to join, nothing to learn and nothing to type in. There are two buttons on it — on, and mute. That is genuinely the whole interface. It is a present for people who would quietly never use anything more complicated than that.

Out of the box

One Cable, Drag, Drop, Done.

Plug the USB-C cable into your computer and the frame turns up as a drive, the same way a memory stick does. Photos go in the PIC folder, videos go in the VIDEO folder. Unplug it and it is ready.

Two things worth knowing before you start, because they are the only fiddly part: photographs need to be JPG, and everything has to be the same way round as the screen you ordered. Get those right and the rest takes about twenty minutes.

A gift that means it

The Present You Have to Think About.

Choosing forty photographs of somebody's life takes an evening. You end up going back years, finding things you had forgotten, sitting there longer than you meant to. That is not a downside — that is the gift, and they can tell.

Anniversaries, eightieth birthdays, someone moving away, a first Christmas without a person. It is a small screen that does one thing, and what makes it land is entirely what you chose to put on it.
